March 2021 Note…

Can you believe it, it’s already March?! It marks one year of uncertainty and many many changes due to Covid- 19. One minute we are in class, then next we are sent home for online learning, then back to in class, then back to online, then back in class. It’s been a whirlwind. However, during all of this the students have shown incredible strength, tremendous flexibility and resilience. This was a major learning curve for everyone but we made it through.

March will be another exciting, educational and a short month. We will have a Covid-19 safe Winter carnival happening during the week of March 8-12. List of themes & activities will be sent home. March Break this year will be on March 15-19.

We have started to grow Tobacco, beans and basil so far. We are hoping to grow all four sacred medicines in our classroom. We will plant these in our garden this spring.

It’s the first year for these new scientists to participate in the LSK’s Science Fair. Our science fair will take place on March 24th. A science fair project involves reading, logical thinking, writing, grammar and spelling, math, statistics and data analysis, computer science, and graphic arts, as well as scientific methodology. When students participate in a formal competition, then they will also practice public speaking, and learn how to explain and defend their work in front of a panel of judges. We all sure hope this will ignite a new love for science. Good Luck to all the participants!

We hope everyone has a safe & adventurous March Break and come back feeling refreshed!
