It was so nice to have a September that resembled more of a normal start to the school, especially compared to last year. In Grade 2 we wasted little time learning our new routines and expectations. Lessons incorporated the theme of respect early and often to help create a respectful and caring classroom environment. The Seven Sacred Teachings were reviewed with the students as well to help support a kindness classroom climate. The grade 2 students have had a great start to the school year with lots of learning experiences and fun.
One of the highlights during the month of September, was going apple picking on our class field trip. Field trips are a major part of the school experience and due to the pandemic, field trips had to be cancelled to ensure everyone’s safety. It was amazing to see all the smiles on the students faces as they picked their apples. In September our literacy and math routines were also established. Students participated during our class shared reading activities along with our smaller group guided reading activities. In math students began exploring their new math tools that helped support students as they worked through a variety of math challenges. Students used their number charts and math manipulatives to participate in a variety of counting activities. The grade 2 students are off and running and if the month of September is any indication on how this year will go, I’d say were going to have an awesome school year.
